Brand & Product

— IKEA®

With more accidents happening in the home than anywhere else, IKEA® decided to take on a more direct and proactive role in providing the information and tools necessary to help its customers create safer lives and a safer home environment.

Working with family and experts around the globe I led a small team of designers and consultants to create IKEA Safer home, a personalised digital program to help diagnose, track and improve the safety of people's home.

— Project
In response to the rising number of home accidents, IKEA launched an initiative to promote safer living environments through education and practical tools. Working within agile, cross-functional teams and using a customer-centered approach, we designed a digital platform that helped IKEA turn safety insights into actionable product and service innovations.

The app offers a personalised, visually engaging experience shaped in collaboration with safety experts. It guides users through common household hazards, offers targeted tips based on their child’s development stage, and tracks progress over time with reminders and refreshers. The result is a tool that not only raises awareness, but also empowers families to create safer homes as their needs evolve.

The IKEA Safer Home app is currently live in Iceland, Australia, and selected cities in the U.S.—a growing proof of concept for how thoughtful design can drive behavioral change at scale.
